Moonlit Woodland - Artisan Series*

Artisan series Moonlit Woodlands large table mat or half size runner/wall hanging done in felted wool applique

Dark starry skies, distant hills, shadowy trees and the warm golden moon light of a winter’s evening, all seek to remind us of nature’s spendid gifts in serene and silent places. Who can’t feel the night time air on their face and see the glow of starlight and moonlight on the landscape while engaging in an evening walk through pristine woodlands? This table topper, completed in either the 20 1/2″ x 16″ table mat size or as the 20 1/2″ x 10″ half size ‘runner’, is meant to capture those moments of purerwonder. Done in deep greens and shades of dark blue – including the use of ‘sparkly wool’ for the heavens – this topper’s colors envelop you into the night…with only the illumination of the golden glowing moon and the scattered stars (done either with metallic thread or with silver beads). As an artisan series, this table mat has no difficult stitches, but does involve a fair number of pieces that are overlapped, ‘underlapped’ or sometimes both. Therefore it is best for the intermediate level stitcher (of maybe a very enthusiastic advanced beginner with patience!) There are options for finishing the side borders/margins to your personal liking – buttons, pennies or both! And if you don’t have room for the large version, consider creating the ‘half size’ runner/wallhanging (the half size makes a great piece to mount above a door!) For those of you who love nature, this piece will leave you with your very own piece of the magical night time woodlands.

*PLEASE NOTE: This pattern is part of the Artisan Series patterns. These patterns are designed for the handworker who 1) has intermediate stitching skills, 2) understands the basics of applique, fusibles, threads and typical materials used in wool applique, and 3) has the confidence to interpret and execute complex patterns. While these patterns will explain the construction techniques used, they do not include many of the beginning basics that are commonly used as a primary reference. These patterns may also include the challenge of a new and creative technique or material.
